What CGC charges in the UK

CGC Cards UK charges a fee per card that depends on the tier, plus return shipping per submission. The calculator uses the prices CGC states as VAT included.

Questions

How much does it cost to grade a Pokemon card in the UK?

With CGC in the UK, the cheapest single-card tier is Economy at £19 a card with VAT, for cards worth up to £800. Bulk is £16.80 a card but needs at least 25 cards. Return shipping starts at £38.40 for up to 5 cards. Ten cards at Economy cost about £236 in total, or about £24 a card, once return shipping and your own postage are added.

Which CGC tier should I use?

Use the cheapest tier whose maximum value covers the card. The maximum is per card: £400 for Bulk, £800 for Economy, £2,500 for Standard, £8,000 for Express and £80,000 for WalkThrough. Above that, the fee is £288 plus 1.2% of the card's value.

Does the CGC fee include shipping to the USA?

Yes. If you ask for your cards to be graded in the USA, CGC says its UK fees include the round trip and insurance between the UK office and its headquarters in Florida. You still pay to send the cards to the UK office and for the return shipping to you.

How is CGC return shipping worked out?

By the number of cards and their total declared value. Up to £20,000 it goes by FedEx Economy: £38.40 for 1 to 5 cards, £40.80 for 6 to 25, £44.40 for 26 to 50, £54 for 51 to 100 and £60 for 101 to 300, VAT included. Higher values use FedEx Priority and cost more.

Is grading worth it?

Only if the graded card sells for more than the raw card plus the cost per card shown above. A card that grades lower than you hoped can sell for less than it would raw, so check recent graded sales at each grade before you send it.
