Pokémon pre-order UK: where to pre-order and your rights
You can pre-order most new Pokémon TCG sets in the UK, but not every shop opens pre-orders, and a pre-order is not a guarantee. A shop can cancel and refund if it oversold or hit a limit. Your legal right to cancel an online order within 14 days of receiving it stays in place either way.
This guide covers where UK pre-orders happen, why they fail, and how to protect yourself. Last reviewed 29 October 2026.
Where can you pre-order Pokémon cards in the UK?
| Where | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Pokémon Center UK | The only place for exclusive boxes. Pre-orders open at a set time, and a queue can start. Per-order, per-account and per-household limits apply, and the terms allow the shop to cancel any order |
| Smyths | Online pre-orders on selected products |
| Argos | Lists new sets close to release. Check the product page for a pre-order button and a collection date |
| Amazon UK | Lists some sets before release. Check the seller is Amazon, and note the per-order maximum |
| The Entertainer | Opens pre-orders for new sets, with per-customer limits online and at the till |
| John Lewis | A small range. Orders rarely get cancelled after the fact |
Not every set gets a pre-order at every shop. A listing that says "coming soon" is not an order. Add the release date to your calendar from the UK release calendar, and check 2027 sets for what is next.
Why Pokémon pre-orders get cancelled
Shops cancel for four main reasons:
- The shop took more orders than it holds stock for.
- You went over a purchase limit, commonly by placing two orders to one address.
- The payment failed when the shop tried to take it.
- A supplier fault stopped fulfilment. In 2026 the Pokémon Center cancelled some UK and German orders, including 30th Celebration pre-orders, after a cyberattack on its shipping partner.

What UK law says about pre-orders
For online and phone orders, you can cancel within 14 days of receiving the goods, without giving a reason. After you tell the seller, you have a further 14 days to send the item back. The seller must refund within 14 days of getting the item back and must refund standard delivery. The seller cannot deduct fees unless the goods were used or damaged. Source: gov.uk.
Two points follow for sealed product:
- The 14 days start when the goods arrive, not when you pre-order.
- Opening a sealed box before you return it can cost you part of the refund, because the seller can deduct for goods that were used.
If a shop cancels your order and does not refund, a payment dispute is the next step. Section 75 on a credit card covers a single item over £100 up to £30,000. For cheaper items use a debit card chargeback or a PayPal dispute.
How to pre-order safely
- Use a retailer with a track record on sealed product. A shop with a clear refund route beats a cheaper unknown seller.
- Place one order per person and one delivery address per account. Duplicates are the common trigger for a cancellation.
- Keep the order confirmation, and screenshot the price and release date on the listing.
- Pay by credit card for items over £100. Section 75 protection applies.
- Compare the pre-order price with the UK RRP. A pre-order far above RRP is a reseller listing, not a retailer listing.
- Do not pay a deposit to a social media seller for "guaranteed" stock.
Should you pre-order to resell?
A pre-order locks in RRP, but it does not lock in demand. Sealed prices move after release, and some sets fall below their launch hype. Check what sealed product sold for and ETB prices before you commit, and read is Pokémon reselling worth it for the fee maths.
Common questions
Can you pre-order Pokémon cards in the UK?
Yes. Pokémon Center UK, Smyths and The Entertainer take pre-orders on selected products, and Amazon UK and Argos list some sets before release. Availability depends on the set and the shop.
Why was my Pokémon pre-order cancelled?
Overselling, a purchase limit, a payment fault or a supplier problem. The email does not always say which. The shop must refund you in full.
Do I get my money back if a pre-order is cancelled?
Yes. A cancelled order means a full refund. If the refund does not appear within about 14 days, write to the shop and then contact your card provider or PayPal.
Can I cancel a pre-order myself?
Yes. You can cancel an online order within 14 days of receiving it. Check your account page for a cancel button before dispatch.
Is it safe to pre-order from a Discord or social media seller?
No. A private seller sits outside the retailer protections above. Use a UK shop, and pay by credit card or PayPal.
